Golden Lion Refurbishment
Brief:
Refurbish and transform the existing Golding Lion pub
What we did:
Sacx began by completely stripping out the original bar and back room to create more space. This included extending the entrance and adding a new disabled ramp. The Sacx Electrical team then performed a complete overhaul, installing all-new lighting for the bar, rooms, and media, as well as external lighting for the patio area. They also installed a new DJ surround system with ceiling speakers split between the two rooms, allowing sports to be played in the bar while music plays in the function room. Additionally, lighting for the pool table and darts area was installed, with provisions for future enhancements.
A bespoke oak bar was crafted by Sacx specifically for the Golden Lion, designed to house all-new bar equipment. Carpenters installed panelling throughout the room, including around the bar, to create a cohesive look. Our in-house decorators then transformed the space, using a colour drench technique on the ceiling that matched the panelling, complemented by contrasting green tones.
The team also addressed the exterior, refreshing the brickwork pointing, installing new drainage for the extension, and making alterations to the patio, including new steps.
Challenges overcome:
We originally had a programme of 10 weeks, however the client suggested reducing this to 6-7 weeks to enable opening in time for the Junior Cadets to enjoy the England Euros 2024. With determination and adaption to design we continued under pressure and indeed opened in time.
Outcome:
Sacx met with the client and Junior Ranks representatives who already had an idea of what they wanted to be achieved. With their ideas and Sacx extensive knowledge on Bar refurbishment we managed to agree on a design and exceeded expectations.
By splitting the Golden Lion into two rooms Bar and Function room, Station are now able to provide MOD families and the local community with social spaces to enjoy.
